Restore the Confidence in Your Smile

Restore the Confidence in Your Smile

Losing teeth can be quite distressing.

According to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, nearly 70 percent of adults ages 35 to 44 are missing at least one tooth due to accidents, tooth decay, gum disease, or fractures. Many people experience tooth loss as they age, and missing teeth can cause embarrassment. Some people even compensate by covering their mouths or avoiding smiling altogether. Don’t let embarrassment steal your joy—let’s talk through a comparison of your two best options, dental implants and dentures, for restoring your smile to glory.

What is the process?

Dr. Robles-Velez of Advanced Oral & Facial Specialists can consult with you to determine the best option to replace the missing teeth in your smile. Dr. Robles will explain the findings and the proposed plan for treatment. Her knowledgeable staff will go over the instructions and walk you through the costs and preparation for surgery step by step. It’s important to understand that insurance may or may not pay a portion of the cost for treatment.

Dental Implants

If you’re missing one or multiple teeth, and you have healthy gums and bone, dental implants are a great option to consider. Dental implants are replacement teeth that are surgically implanted into the jawbone, just like real teeth. If you practice good oral hygiene, research shows that dental implants can last for 20 years or longer without needing replacements.

Dental implants function and feel like your natural teeth. You clean and care for them the same way. You can eat all the same foods you’ve always loved, and you can speak without fear of them slipping and falling out. Dental implants represent a great deal of freedom and security for wearers.

Dentures

Dental implants and dentures are the most common options available today for patients that are missing all their teeth. Dentures are false teeth, and although their quality and craftsmanship have improved dramatically since their invention, they’re still not ideal for long term use, because they get loose as the jawbone recedes. If your dentures aren’t secured with denture adhesive, they can slip out of place while you’re eating or talking. Partial dentures that aren’t fitted well can promote tooth decay and gum resorption on the teeth they hold onto.

Implants can also be used to help retain the dentures. They are the most current choice for securing loose or ill-fitting dentures. Depending on your specific situation, as few as two dental implants can make a big difference in securing your denture and restoring your confidence.

Over a long period of time, implants can preserve bone. Implants replace the root of the tooth which stimulates the jawbone, helping it to maintain its density and prevent shrinkage of the jawbone. The integrity of the facial structure stays intact, and keeps you looking younger for longer.

Talk with Dr. Robles today and find out which option is best for you.
